Start with the thing that catches people out: the University of Warwick is in Coventry. Its campus sits about three miles south west of the centre, on the city boundary, and the town of Warwick is a further ten miles away with no campus in it. Coventry University is the other way entirely, built into the middle of the city around the cathedral. Those two facts are most of what you need to pick an area here, and getting them the wrong way round means a daily bus you did not plan for.
Coventry University students can live genuinely central, because the campus and the city centre are the same place. Most purpose-built blocks here are within a few minutes of teaching. Warwick students split between Canley and Cannon Park, which are the closest residential areas to campus, and Earlsdon, which is further but has the better high street and is popular enough that people stay there for the rest of their degree. Hillfields and Stoke sit east of the centre and are the cheaper options, both walkable to Coventry University. Tile Hill is the far side of Warwick's campus and has its own railway station.
Room types, what bills included really covers, when to book, and what to check if you are arriving from abroad.
Most managed student buildings are in the centre and work especially well for Coventry University. En-suite rooms share a kitchen, studios are self-contained, and cluster flats give groups a more social setup. Warwick students should compare those blocks with rooms around Canley, Cannon Park and Westwood Heath.
Shared houses are common in Earlsdon, Canley, Stoke and Tile Hill. They may offer more space, but add bills and the daily campus journey before comparing them with an all-inclusive room. The University of Warwick is in south-west Coventry, so a room near Coventry University is not automatically close to Warwick.
MoJO currently lists 27 Coventry student stays, with published prices at the prices shown on this page. Compare the complete tenancy cost, bills, deposit, payment plan and bus travel to your exact campus. For Warwick, test the route at the time you would normally travel rather than relying on straight-line distance.
Confirm the room category, start date, cancellation terms and guarantor requirements in writing. In a shared house, check the inventory, repair contact, joint-liability terms and whether the address needs a local housing licence.
Coventry's student population is anchored by University of Warwick and Coventry University. When choosing student accommodation in Coventry, most students prioritise the walking-distance or single-transfer commute to their own department, since it saves 60 to 90 minutes a day on lectures, labs, and evening study.
On each Coventry property page you will see the exact minute count to nearby universities and whether the campus is served by direct public transport. If you already know your university, filter by it before comparing rooms, it saves a lot of back and forth.
The best areas for student accommodation in Coventry include City centre and Far Gosford Street, Canley and Cannon Park, Earlsdon and Chapelfields, Hillfields and Stoke, and Tile Hill and Westwood Heath. Each has a distinct mix of student housing, cafes, supermarkets, and public transport connections, so the "best" area really depends on which university you attend and what kind of neighbourhood you want to live in.
If you are new to Coventry, aim for neighbourhoods with a high student population and good late-night public transport. Areas near your university's main campus are safest for evening walks home and mean you can lie in for 9 AM lectures.
Rent is usually the single biggest line item in a student's budget in Coventry. Beyond rent, students typically budget for groceries, public transport, mobile data, and social spending.
If Coventry rents feel steep, it can be worth comparing with cities like London and Nottingham: the same weekly budget often stretches further, and some the United Kingdom universities have satellite campuses across multiple cities.

The 11 and 12 buses between the city centre and Warwick's campus are the route most students here actually use, and they run late. Allow twenty to thirty minutes for that trip at busy times of day. Canley and Tile Hill both have railway stations on the Coventry to Birmingham line, which is useful if you are at Warwick and want to avoid the bus. Coventry station itself reaches Birmingham in about twenty minutes and London Euston in an hour, and cycling works well across the city, which is flatter than most in the Midlands.
